About

Since 2006 and over more than 200 unique research projects, Research Essentials has used qualitative research methods, primarily ethnography and open-ended questioning, to help companies and non-profits understand their current and future customers to develop product, service and messaging opportunities across a variety of industries.

We are a nimble, responsive Denver-based research firm using a collaborative approach to keep budgets low and timeframes short. We adjust our research projects when needed, always keeping in mind that our clients’ research needs drive our approach. We are aggressive advocates for our research participants’ experiences and allow those experiences to drive our results and recommendations.

We are researchers. We bring an academic perspective, experience, background and training to our work, but we are not academics. We are researchers. We pay attention. We observe. We ask questions. We listen. These are the essentials of research and we bring them to every interaction on every project.

Our work takes place in homes, cars, stores, bars, conference rooms, focus group facilities and any other locations that are meaningful to our research participants. Using the tools of ethnography, we meet people where they are – physically, experientially and emotionally. Today those “locations” are just as likely to be online as in-person. We use third-party software that allows our research participants to easily and quickly tell their own stories and share their own experiences with us from across the country and world. The research locations and research platform may change, but the essentials remain. We pay attention. We observe. We ask questions. We listen.

We are experts in ethnography and qualitative research and apply this experience to a range of audiences. We are just as comfortable engaging Millennials as their grandparents. We are the outside eyes and ears – the neutral party – for our clients. We bring enough experience to interactions with research participants to know the context of the project, as well as our clients’ research needs and project goals, but we are researchers first. We are always building our findings and opportunities from the thoughts, experiences and beliefs of our research participants. The research participants may change, but the essentials remain. We pay attention. We observe. We ask questions. We listen.
